Table of Contents:
Step 1. Download and install SABnzbd.
Visit https://sabnzbd.org/downloads, download the latest stable release, and run the installer.
Make sure to check “Run at startup” when prompted. If you get a Windows Firewall prompt, select “Allow Access”. When installed, a browser tab will open.
Step 2. Set up SABnzbd.
When the browser tab opens after installation, click “Start Wizard”.
First, enter the connection information you received from your Usenet provider. For connections, 10-20 connections is usually sufficient, but you can play with this later to maximize your Usenet connection. Click “Test Server” to verify your connection, and click “Next”.
Second, set up access to SABnzbd. The options here are up to you. If you want all of the security, choose “I want SABnzbd to be viewable from pc only”, check “Password protect” and enter a Username and Password, and check “Enable HTTPS access”. Un-check “Launch browser when the program starts”, since we chose to run the program at startup.
Step 3. Configure SABnzbd.
There are several configuration options to change. Click the “Config” gear icon on the top right corner.
In the “General” tab, change the “SABnzbd Port” to 38080. click “Save Changes”, then “Restart Sabnzbd”. Your browser will show an error page; click in your browser address bar and change the “8080” to “38080” and press enter.
Now go to the “Folders” tab and update the following (assuming your Windows drive is C):
- Temporary Download Folder: C:\sab\inc
- Completed Download Folder: C:\sab\cpl
- Watched Folder: C:\sab\wch
Click “Save Changes”, and click the “Switches” tab. Update the following:
- Check “Abort jobs that cannot be completed”
- Set “Action when encrypted RAR is downloaded” to Abort
- Set “Unwanted Extensions” to “exe, com”
- Set “Action when unwanted extension detected” to Abort
- Check “Direct Unpack” (older systems may struggle with this, turn off if so)
- Check “Ignore Samples”
That’s it!
